On September 5th, the California Department of Housing and Community Development announced the departure of Director Ben Metcalf’s departure, effective the next day (September 6, 2019). Metcalf was formerly the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multifamily Housing with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development and was with BRIDGE Housing Corporation prior to that.
“Farewells are never easy, and it is with extremely mixed emotions that I’m announcing my departure from HCD as I take the next step on my personal career path in continued service of addressing our housing affordability crisis,” said Director Metcalf.
Chief Deputy Director, Doug McCauley, will serve as Acting Director until a new Director is appointed.
“I am confident Doug will provide excellent leadership for the entire HCD team as they continue their hard work in support of HCD’s mission and in its efforts to implement Governor Newsom’s vision of affordable housing for all Californians. “Many thanks to Governor Newsom for the opportunity to serve in these exciting times for housing in California. Many thanks too, to Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary Alexis Podesta for her leadership, guidance, and support. And, of course, my gratitude to the entire HCD team.”
