Legislation sponsored by LeadingAge California (AB 1709, Jones-Sawyer) to improve the Nursing Home Administrator program by allowing more candidates to enter the field has been approved by the Senate Health Committee on an 8-0 vote.
A key provision of the bill would allow for multiple Administrators-in-Training (AITs) to be taught by a single preceptor rather than the current model which only allows for 2 per preceptor. This would allow for more consistent training in larger organizations who have centralized training for all their communities.
The bill also allows out-of-state Nursing Home Administrator candidates who have a certification from the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) to meet minimum education requirements.
AB 1709 is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
