The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) clarified on March 8, 2019 that a Director of Nursing (DON) working in a facility with 59 beds, or fewer, can be counted as direct care staff, up to 40 hours.
In addition, hours worked by Directors of Staff Development (DSD) can be counted as direct care staff if the DSD delineates the number of hours providing direct care.
