Governor Gavin Newsom finished off the legislative session by signing SB 228 (Jackson) to support the implementation of the Master Plan for Aging. The legislation builds on his earlier executive order which will help prepare California for the approaching aging crisis. Specifically, the bill provides the California Department of Aging with tools to effectively implement and administer the Master Plan.
LeadingAge California supported the legislation and is playing a critical role in the development of the Master Plan for Aging through Governor Newsom’s stakeholder advisory committee. LeadingAge California CEO Jeannee Parker Martin sits on the committee which is currently working on the roadmap for state government, local communities, private organizations and philanthropy to build an age friendly California. The Master Plan is to be developed by October 1, 2020.
